Nia H. (RPI 2024)

CS, Math, and Music Tutor

Hiya, I'm Nia! I graduated from RPI spring 2024 as a pure mathematics and music dual. However, I was very involved in the CS department. For five semesters, I was a Data Structures mentor, and then for my fifth semester mentoring, I was promoted to a course assistant, which is essentially a TA with less hours. For my senior year, I was a course assistant for Submitty, mentoring new students while also implementing new features. Academically, I also took classes in logic and creative writing, and I was a winner in the 2024 McKinney writing contest for my story "Bad Clothes." I did multiple independent studies in higher mathematics, and I had two of my music compositions played in EMPAC.

I am fascinated by how we think. That intrigue guides me as a tutor, as I love learning how each student thinks about a topic. I want to lay a path that leads that student to an understanding that is satisfying. I use lots of visuals, and my rigorous mathematical background lets me see gaps in understanding easily, similar to a compilation error. Like I did here, I love injecting humorous metaphors in our discussion as I help one gain a better understanding of a topic.

I tutor courses such as CSI, Data Structures, FOCS, Calculus I, Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus & Matrix Algebra, Mathematical Analysis I, Linear Algebra, Foundations of Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Intro to Toplogy, Music and Sound I, Music and Sound II, and Music and Technology I. I am happy to be your tutor!
